Stewards of the Land

Most of us agree that we need to take better care of our environment; and, most of us are not activists or politicians. In the media, all we see is conflict and tragedy over environmental issues. Certainly, it all makes us feel like we should do something; but, what? What can each of us sensibly do to protect the resources that in turn support and sustain us? The answer is simpler than many of us think.

Wendell Berry once said that the ultimate environmental act is making a commitment to taking care of the land on which you live. It’s a concept that is very empowering and very true. It’s a way that you yourself can make a choice to make a real difference in the natural world, whether we’re deep in the wilderness or in the middle of a city.
